Chicago – River North

River North has become a very artistic neighborhood of Chicago. There are many galleries lining Superior and Huron Street that are a common attraction for both Chicago dwellers and visitors. River North is usually the first part of downtown Chicago that visitors see when heading towards the Magnificent Mile by way of Ohio Street. Rock and Roll McDonalds, Portillo's and the Hard Rock Café are some of the popular tourist sites in River North.

One of River North’s most famous buildings is the Merchandise Mart. The Merchandise Mart was started as a wholesale warehouse for Marshall Fields, but has undergone many changes and has switched hands many times before it became what is known for today. This gigantic building once held the title for largest building until the Pentagon was built. Its size is still apparent today from its towering perch over the Chicago River. The Merchandise Mart is still a central location in the fashion and furniture design scene, but is also home to many other types of businesses.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of River North is the large number of newly renovated condos and apartments. This previous warehouse district has been converted for residential use, and its popularity has taken off ever since.
