Chicago Real Estate in Wicker Park

Wicker Park is in the middle of a real estate upswing. Real estate in this area has become very popular lately with the professional crowd. The gentrification of Wicker Park is of much concern with the artistic locals who want to maintain the unique, eclectic atmosphere that has existed for so long. This clash of lifestyles has created a Chicago real estate hotspot that has steadily increased property values.

Chicago - Wicker Park Location

Located Northwest of Chicago’s downtown, Wicker Park is very close to all the action. Being just west of the highway, it is not hard to get to from outside to city (or get out if you so desire). Wicker Park is bordered to the South by Division Street, to the East by Ashland Avenue, to the West by Western Avenue. The boundary to the North between Bucktown is somewhat debatable. Some say it is at North Avenue, sharing the famous intersection at Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues with Bucktown. Others say it a couple blocks North at Bloomingdale St.

Chicago - Wicker Park

Wicker Park’s was historically based around the small park that the Wicker brothers, Charles and Joel, donated to the city in 1870. Some of the most prized real estate locations in Chicago are located near the park. Magnificent Victorian style manors are located in this area, once occupied by the families of great Chicago brewer “barons”. Wicker Park was once largely populated by people of German and Polish decent. Wicker Park is now a very culturally diverse neighborhood of Chicago, residentially and commercially.

Wicker Park has recently been known for its eclectic stores and galleries. This artistic neighborhood holds some of Chicago’s most popular galleries and fashion design studios. The intersection of Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues is the heart of this trendy neighborhood. Hip galleries, restaurants and boutiques are all around this artistic haven. The famous Double Door on Milwaukee Avenue is the popular place to listen to an affordable show. It’s a rarity to spend more than $10 on a show at the Double Door.

The popularity of Wicker Park is a testament to its uniqueness and ability to cater to a variety of crowds and lifestyles. Whether you’re a “starving” artist looking for an inspiring place to create and make connections, or a downtown professional looking to fit into a nicely renovated apartment, you’ll certainly find a match in Wicker Park.
